As General Manager at FreeRun Winery Services, David Reed is passionate about the wine industry and making a difference for independent wine producers through implementation of supply best practices that dramatically improve operational efficiency and total costs. He is a seasoned and innovative professional with the proven ability to achieve extraordinary business results through successfully building the systems, processes, organizations and relationships needed to drive and sustain excellence in today’s challenging economic environment.
David began his professional career with Eastman Kodak Company where he first experienced the benefits of working within a world class supply chain management environment. His initial assignments were in warehousing and physical distribution, before moving into planning, forecasting and global logistics roles. After spending the next several years leading International Operations, Sales & Operations Planning and Import/Export Logistics functions for the Clinical Products Division, David became a core member of the Johnson & Johnson integration team when the unit was acquired in 1995. Over a six year span with Johnson & Johnson, Reed held successive senior management roles responsible for business development, strategic sourcing, information mgmt., procurement and global contract manufacturing. He was actively engaged in driving total supply chain excellence as he spearheaded their strategic supplier management programs as well as six sigma/lean initiatives.
Shortly after accepting a corporate relocation to California, David and his wife were blessed with the birth of their first child and soon decided Silicon Valley was not where they wanted to settle/raise a family. Having moved from the Finger Lakes region of upstate New York, they set out to find a community in the wine country and upon their first visit to Healdsburg, knew they were home. In January 2001, David accepted a position with Beringer Wine Estates (now Fosters Wine Estates Americas) as Director – Purchasing and Planning and over the next eight years held senior management roles responsible for procurement, planning, materials mgmt., external operations, distribution, customer service, transportation and import/export services.
David’s longtime dream of establishing a total supply chain services company aimed at providing competitive advantage for small to mid-size wineries became a reality in late 2009 when Cornerstone Systems created its’ FreeRun Winery Services division. As a market leader in transportation/logistics, and specifically their wine industry dominance in rail and intermodal freight, this new entity represents an exciting venture for this Memphis, TN based privately held company.
David resides in Healdsburg with his family and is an active member of the community, where he enjoys coaching youth sports and serves on the Healdsburg Little League Board of Directors. Recreational activities include biking, kayaking, music and of course supporting his favorite local wineries. Professional affiliations include Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) and Institute of Supply Management (ISM).
